People, especially city people, nowadays have little time for serious reading beyond their daily newspaper. They say that they are more busy with their high pressure jobs and long hours and so have less spare time and inclination to read at the end of a long, long day. They prefer to unwind and ease their stress by watching the television or listening to the radio. What little time is left-over at the end of the working week tends to be spent on family chores and family reunions.
Many teenagers and young people who have been reared on video games and the internet seem addicted to these electronic hobbies and only give time for reading when forced to do so by their teachers and parents for school homework. Alternatively, they may prefer to escape their crowded apartment and join their friends to hang-out around the shopping malls. It would be exceptional to find them quietly reading in a library. It seems so few people have time for reading!
